A&U talks – Sixty Years of the Journal Architektúra & Urbanizmus

Since 1967, the journal Architektúra & Urbanizmus has been reflecting the latest research in architecture and urbanism, with a focus on Czechoslovakia and Central Europe. In recent years, it has focused mainly on the contemporary history of architecture and urban planning. The discussion marking the journal’s 60th volume, however, will not be a retrospective of its history or content.

Henrieta Moravčíková, chair of the A&U editorial board, and Peter Szalay, the journal’s editor-in-chief, will be joined by Soňa G. Lutherová, editor-in-chief of Slovenský národopis, and Adam Hudek, editor-in-chief of Historický časopis. All three journals are published under the auspices of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Together they will discuss what it means to publish a scholarly journal in an era of radical digitization and intensifying global competition for citations. How can a journal keep its own identity and direction while meeting ever stricter requirements for anonymous and independent peer review? How can it hold its ground among competing journals? And does it still make sense to publish journals in print?
