discussion introducing the latest thematic issue of Architektuúra & Urbanizmus, Architectural Manifestos from Le Corbusier to Rem Koolhaas, with Monika Mitášová, Jana Tichá, and Jiří Tourek.
The event takes place on March 19 at 7:00 PM at Galerie VI PER, Vítkova 2, Prague 8.
The new issue returns to the phenomenon of the architectural manifesto as one of the 20th century’s key genres. The impetus was the anniversary of the publication of Le Corbusier’s book Towards a New Architecture. This text fundamentally influenced the direction of modern architecture and continues to stimulate discussion to this day. Although there is often talk today of a crisis or exhaustion of manifestos, their ability to formulate a challenge, a program, and a vision for the future has not lost its relevance. The issue does not focus solely on Le Corbusier’s work and legacy but offers a broader view of architectural manifestos throughout the 20th century. The aim is not only to look back and critically evaluate, but above all to understand what a manifesto can mean today.
