After the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, the conservative wing of the Communist Party assumed power and initiated the process of political and social normalization. As its influence and authority expanded, the Party faced a shortage of administrative facilities; hence the 1970s and 1980s became a golden age for the specific architectural typology of the Party headquarters. The study examines the origins of this typology, the circumstances of its insertion into the urban landscape, and the complex question of its architectural values, including its contribution and function in current society after 1989.
